mailserver configuration(squrrelmail)

I want to configure squrrelmail in linux.if i do not use mysql databse for storing data in squrrelmail i can use flat file.How can i use flat file in squrrelmail.

While login in squrrelmail i am getting error:connection refused by IMAP server.How can i solve this problem and configure squrrelmail server.I need step by step solutions.
