poor mans hot spare/fail over

I have a Plesk server (8.6) running on CentOS 5.x (production system) and I would like to implement a fail-over scenario. (Sync can occur on a daily basis or a 12h basis)

What should be done from a DNS standpoint? (a third-party should be hosting the DNS and the master domain's DNS should be set to slave?)

What should the Plesk configuration reflect?

How should the files be synced? What should be synced?etc..
