aicc, What distribution are you using ? If you purchased a box set it may have come with boot / rescue disk or it may explain the quickest way to create them for your particular
distribution. For instance, if you use RedHat you can grab some images from their CD to create boot disks using rawrite from DOS or dd from Linux
Once you have a a boot and root/rescue disk you can boot up, mount what ever drives you still have left and recover data. You can also boot most distributions from the CD
now and do a fresh install. Hope this helped
