if you're looking 4 a web interface to admin your BOX, i'd say get WEBMIN... if not, you'll have a problem
with php, is pretty unsafe, and running php as root is not a solutions, as long as security is first thing you need to take care of those days; php as root will only create a hole in your BOX, so don't do that...
u should use cgi's to do that.. u can give it a shot, as u will find a lot of scripts on the net
