Did my "rpm -ba" suggestion not work?
Were you able to install a source RPM for sendmail?
Were you able to replace the source-code of that RPM w/ the latest?

Is there any program to convert .tar to .rpm format for RH linux ? Also I want to download the latest sendmail (which is in tar format) and update the distro with rpm format. How do I do that?
Please help me!!

download the required rpm from rpmfind.net
AFAIK there is no such tool ... you need to write the specs for your platform and do the packaging ... here is a link detailing how to do that
