Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Software that monitors processes and restart them if they fail

Hello,

I need you to tell me if you know a program that works as a daemon and constantly monitors processes that run on the Linux machine. When a process hangs up, stops responding or loads the machine excessively due to a bug or something alike, it will restart that particular process making the machine work properly again.
I am a Linux newbie and I'm playin with a Clarkconnect distribution built from CentOS. I am testing the mailserver features and sometimes the postfix server hangs up the whole system.
The routing works, the vpn works, however, I can not access any other services (like ssh, httpd, webconfig, nothing), the putty window just waits for the connection without giving a timeout error, the web explorer stays for hours loading "something", the mail doesn't work...
Also is there any other mean of sending a restart command from the local network? Perhaps using SNMP?

The damn machine is located in the office ceiling and it's extremely difficult to get to it and manually restart it. This is why I need a suggestion for a software that automatically restarts the programs that go mad and make the machine almost useless, or another method to restart the whole operating system remotely (one that doesn't require ssh, webconfig).
