The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Mounting a Samba share from Suse Enterprise Desktop

Asked by effincomputers in Linux Administration, Linux Networking

Tags: mount, samba, suse, share

I have Suse 10 Enterprise server running as a Samba server for Windows clients. I have no problem accessing these shares with Windows. I'm now setting up a Suse 10 Enterprise desktop. I would like to access these Samba shares. I understand I could either mount the shares or use smbclient to access them as needed.
I think I'd prefer using the smbclient command, the mounting command seems to require too many parameters (username and password) in plain text.
My question is, after the smbclient command executes and the password is accepted, how can I set up an "windows explorer-like window" to see the contents of that share? Pardon the MS term.  Instead of only being able to access the share in a terminal, at the location-  smb: \>     I would like to open a file browsing window that's configured to open that share.
As I'm trying this, however, I could see this getting to be unmanageable with more than one share being accessed with the smbclient command. I just "mapped" out another resource and it was listed as being located at smb: \>  too? Can only one share be accessed at the same time? Would I be better off mounting the shares?
If so, when I try to, I get

The command that I enter is: mount -t smbfs -o username=username,password=thepassword //server-name/share-name /home/username/folder/subfolder

The error I get with this is: Could not resolve mount point /home/username/folder/subfolder

I created these folders, they exist, but for some reason the resolution does not take place. Any ideas?

Sorry for the extended message.

Thanks in advance.
