mv -Rf ./webrootlatest/ ./webroot/
should work if you are on the dir level that has both dirs included
you could also rename webroot using rm and then rename webrootlatest

Browse All TopicsOn server, I have directory entitled webroot for storing all scripts of my Web Root.
When I download updated scripts in a package, such as webroot.tar, they create a directory at the same level called webroot-latest -- the structure then looks like this
-> webroot
-folder1
-folder2
-script1.php
-script2.php
-> webroot-latest
-folder1
-folder2
-script1.php
-script2.php
I need to move everything (directories and scripts) from webroot-latest into webroot with the intention of overwriting the old scripts and directories.
What command shall I use?
Something like this (which is totally a guess)?
mv webroot-latest/* ../webroot/*

Do you want to move everything from webroot-latest to webroot and overwrite everything, or do you want to leave files that are in webroot that are not supplied in the new webroot-latest, like customized files, etc?
If you want to only have files in webroot-latest overwrite files in webroot, but leave files that are not in webroot-latest.tar, do this instead:
tar --strip-components 1 -xf webroot.tar -C /path/webroot
