Yeah well ..all that path does is that it changes some lines in the file you are patching you could try to open and read the patch file and do the changes manually.

ohrite...thanks shakoush for your reply but if i am in a folder for example "/myfolder" and running the above patch command then which file is targeted for this change? I mean in above command the patch file is < to the patch command without any file info. Sorry for immature question but m nt much expert at it

Try to open the patch file and read what is in it..I think you will find clues in it.

Well, if its a Qmail setup you're going to be doing, you're going to really want to get patch working as this definitely won't be the only patch you are using. uscpi-tcp, daemontools and QMail all will require quite a bit of patching.

Almost every update to Qmail since 1.03 came out has been in patch form.

Judging from what it says on GoDaddy's site, you're usings either CentOS or Fedora Core, both of which use package management systems that should be able to install patch. (yum I believe)

Out of curiosity, are you using a particular walkthrough to install Qmail?

by: Syngin9Posted on 2008-03-05 at 08:10:08ID: 21051552

Ok, bear in mind that that just install the patch program.  You'll need to re-run the command to patch ucspi-tcp-0.88.

Make sure you are in the source directory of ucspi-tcp-0.88 though before running it!

patch < /usr/local/src/netqmail-1.06/other-patches/ucspi-tcp-0.88.errno.patch

Thank you syngin...yes...i run the command it successfully did the process without any error...though the question has been closed bt i need just one favour (not must, you can simply ignore it) .. when i run package/ install command bellow as following the qmail documentation it came up with '-bash: package/: is a directory' indication....m i still wrong somewhere while following the instruction?

by: Syngin9Posted on 2008-03-05 at 08:21:31ID: 21051656

Try it without the space in front of 'install'.

Its a relative command and would need to be run in othe correct directory to work.

package/install

by: vickatlinuxPosted on 2008-03-05 at 08:27:37ID: 21051719

wow...it worked :-) ... i was putting the extra space in between...thanks again
