Unable to mount file system - Fedora 8

I have Fedora 8 installed on an x86_64 platform that is working. I have a raid1 configured with LVM designated to /dev/md0. This device mounts good as I set it all up through the installation of Fedora 8. I have another raid1 configured from two partitioned drives (/dev/sdc1, /dev/sdd1) which is designated /dev/md1. Using mdadm, I have assembled md1 and added it to my /etc/mdadm.conf file:

ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid1 num-devices=2 UUID=8c368217:76c3a4ea:53953cfc:3433cac2
ARRAY /dev/md1 level=raid1 num-devices=2 UUID=7d323edb:9a1f0004:5ad13b1f:6d2fa5dd

I also modified my /etc/fstab to define a mount point for md1:

/dev/md1 /array1 ext3 defaults 0 0

I also changed the grub.conf to raid=autodetect:

title Fedora (2.6.24.4-64.fc8)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.24.4-64.fc8 ro root=/dev/VG00/LV01 raid=autodetect rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.24.4-64.fc8.img

Given the above, when I reboot, I get an error telling me it failed to mount filesystem /dev/md1. However, when the system starts up, I am able to cat /proc/mdstat and see all my raid devices correctly and subsequently mount them.

If I had to guess, the system is attempting to mount the raid device prior to md1 existing. I thought modifying grub to autodetect raid would solve this.

How can I successfully mount my raid device during boot?
