Why am I getting  "Server refused our key" using SSH and Putty when it was working fine for more than a year

I have been using two Linux boxes in the past. I configured those to use public key to authenticate my SSH sessions.

From my Windows machine I have used this setup with Putty for more than a year. Now for reasons I don't really understand I cannot use this setup anymore.

The server suddenly started responding with 'Server refused our key' and requires me to use password authentication again. I have regenerated all of my keys and configured the whole thing again. Of course, this didn't help.

Why is this no longer working. The Linux box btw is hosted by Dreamhost, so I am not in control of this thing.
