Hi,
you dont install phpmyadmin in linux

just download phpmyadmin from linux

change this file config.sample.inc to config.inc

and then check the bellow code, your config.inc should be like this

special attention to this :

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'XXXXXX';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress'] = false;

<?php

I am using VPS, and I have rename phpmyadmin as adm.
When I had this VPS, I instructed them to set up as dev.domain1.com.
so http://dev.domain1.com, I get the apache centos page cause there's nothing yet in /var/www/html
http://dev.domain1.com:10000 gets me the webmin's page
and http://dev.domain1.com:901 gets me the swat samba page

Next I set up Joomla in /var/www/html2/Joomla using virtualhost dev.domain2.com

Now it seems whether I use dev.domain1.com or dev.domain2.com, I get Joomla
But if I http://dev.domain1.com:10000, I get webmin

I have put phpmyadmin under /var/www/html and rename it to adm
but http://dev.domain1.com/adm, I get 404 Not Found

Following instructions from fosiu101
I dont see the 2 line below. Do I add the 2 lines, cause if you ask me to edit, I don't see the lines
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'XXXXXX';

and I don't see this either
$cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] = 'localhost/phpmyadmin/';       #change this to localhost/adm?

I am using dyndns service, probably virtualhost configuration on the vps is not right yet
The virtualhost setup as shown on webmin
Defines the default settings for all other virtual servers, and processes any unhandled requests.

Handles the name-based server dev.oriental-my.com on all addresses

Maybe you can spot any errors from above
I downloaded phpmyadmin 2.11.7 english

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 06:45:59ID: 21883596

at first, you should not mention anything  like this !!
anyone will know where is your webadmin and swat page !!
dev.oriental-my.com

and  then
so http://dev.domain1.com, I get the apache centos page cause there's nothing yet in /var/www/html
http://dev.domain1.com:10000 gets me the webmin's page
and http://dev.domain1.com:901 gets me the swat samba page

give me little bit of time, i will download the virsion you got , need to c heck that file

also one more thing . if you place any html file under /var/www/html, can you see them by typing

http://dev.domain1.com/test.html ??

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 07:01:19ID: 21883792

I guess its too late to correct now about showing the domain

anyway, I tested http://dev.domain1.com/test.html and I get 404

Maybe I can try to paste the phpmyadmin in the Joomla folder?

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 07:10:18ID: 21883907

just post a new question in community support with your question link, they will delete those link as soon as possible

about 404, yes that mean, your web site configuration is not right.

do you have access to shell   of ur vps server ??

will you be able to brorwse file from Shell comand ??

cd /var/www/html ??
if you can, can you tell me, what file you see in this folder ??
and also what you see in this folder  /var/www/html2/ ??

what i am trying to understand is ,from which path your index.php is comming for your dev.XXorientaXXX.com.

from your post its saying, its comming from /var/www/html but why you are unable to browse test.html !!!

2nd part of your question:
about phpmyadmin config : copy the code snippet and past it in your config.inc file.
just change password , and path for phpmyadmin and user

and tell me what happeded. NOte : just changed the uncommented sentences . you dont need to touch the commented sentence which starts with /*.

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 07:11:29ID: 21883927

or you can paste phpmyadmin in your joomla folder, see what happended

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 07:17:07ID: 21884001

Tried by http://IP/test.html  Page not found

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 07:22:42ID: 21884063

ok you have domain1 domain and domain2 domain (  i am not saying full domain name)

now tell me, do you know where all the files for domain1 domain is going ?? ( i mean which folder )??

Can you upload a html file in that folder and test, if you can see it or not

Natually, its stay in, var/www/html folder.
unless your webmin has changed this one to another folder.

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 08:07:34ID: 21884547

Ok phpmyadmin works when I put it in the Joomla folder,

mcrypt warning..probably diisabled.

The webmin can't find the php.ini. I see php.ini in /etc..don't know if it's the right one
webmin needs to be configured for the path of php.ini for cgi and cli

How to configure the link tables

I have tested the test.html at http://dev.domain1.com/test.html but get page 404

As you can see, I have set up oriental at /var/www/html

Even if I use http://IP , I get the Joomla home page.

Cannot understand why it is happening, cause yesterday oriental was pointing to the /var/www/html folder

Anyway, Lets sort out the phpmyadmin. I have manage to log in to phpmyadmin.
Which php.ini needs to be configured. When I was using windows, there were 3 php.ini.
I found one in /etc but I dont see mcrypt extension to uncomment.

Then how do I abled the link tables

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 08:14:57ID: 21884625

yes, Sort the problem one by one

let finish the phpmyadmin

You said, " I have manage to log in to phpmyadmin." -> that mean, you can see create table or other database related task from phpmyadmin ??

I realy didnot understand, what you mean by this comments :
"Which php.ini needs to be configured. When I was using windows, there were 3 php.ini."

You should have only 1 php.ini, ( NOT 3!!!) , why do you need to configure php.ini if you can enter to phpmyadmin ??

last : what you mean by this : mcrypt warning..probably diisabled.
are you getting any error message when you are at index page of phpmyadmin ?? if yes, can you just take a print screen and past the picture here ?? ( ERASE DOMAIN NAME AND OTHER , JUST PICTURE WHERE ERROR IS SHOWING WITH RED WRITE)

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 08:54:26ID: 21885061

I have manage to get the http://domain1l/test.html  ok now. The dev.oriental virtualhost for folder /var/www/html should be at the top of dev.reti for folder /var/www/html2/Joomla  Its sorted now.

Since I have put the phpmyadmin in Joomla folder which is supposed to be access by http://dev.reti/adm, but because of problem with virtualhost earlier., I manage to access it by http://dev.domain1/adm.

But now after virtualhost is ok again, when I try to access it by http://dev.reti/adm, phpmyadmin gives an error.. cannot connect to dev.domain1/adm.

I don't what's the way out, because the data of the host is in the database. Maybe I can try to add the phpmyadmin folder in the /var/www/html folder and then http://dev.oriental or paste the adm folder from Joomla folder to /var/www/html .. think that should work?

OK regarding your question on php.ini, I'll take it from you that /etc/php.ini is the one and only php.ini
Yes, I can browse, see the tables, import, SQL and the rest of the toolbars.

I'll wait for your comment on how to proceed.

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 09:01:54ID: 21885122

Ok i have checked, your this one work : http://dev.domain1/adm.

need explanation about your this comments : http://dev.domain2/adm, phpmyadmin gives an error.. cannot connect to dev.oriental/adm.

i just tryed with this link http://dev.domain2.XX.XX/adm/  , i can phpmyadmin file is comming

so what is the problem ?? Can you not login into phpmyadmin ??

and  you are trying to access http://dev.domain2.XX.XX/adm/ , why it will say that it cant connect to dev.oriental ??!!
if there is any problem, it should say, it cant connect to dev.domain2 not dev.domain1 . is not it ??

let me know.
I will be off after 30 min, my office hour would be finish, need to go to see someone in hospital, may be i will be able to give you answer atleast after 3 hrs

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 09:02:52ID: 21885130

Sorry , instead of this line : i just tryed with this link http://dev.domain2.XX.XX/adm/  , i can phpmyadmin file is comming

it would be i just tryed with this link http://dev.domain2.XX.XX/adm/  , i can see phpmyadmin file is comming

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 09:13:57ID: 21885241

So I have got no more problems with the    dev.oriental/adm
phpmyadmin is working. But I get this error
Cannot load mcrypt extension. Please check your PHP configuration.
 I don't know what mcrypt encrypt. How do I get it to load?

FYI dev.reti don't work now, but lets sort out just this phpmyadmin config, mcrypt

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 09:21:13ID: 21885321

ommm, what did mean by FYI dev.domain2 don't work now, ??

do u mean, you dont see the page commingif you type dev.reti ?? or you phpmyadmin is openning by cant enter inside phpmyadmin  with username and password from dev.domain2??

because, from my side if i type http://dev.domain2.XX.XX/adm/ i can see pphmyadmin page its comming with the problem of mcrypt problem

about mcrypt problem : it will not make too much different. because you can work with the problem, but wil  try to fix the problem

i had this problme and it  been fixed.

can you check if in Extenstion folder, you have .dll file called php_mcrypt.dll ??

and also, can you restart your server or atleast apache, it might help you with this problem.

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 09:50:25ID: 21885626

dev.domain2/adm is actually serving from folder /var/www/htm/adml which is actually the default server dev.domain1.

If you just type http://dev.domain2 , you will see the apache centos page and not the joomla

I am on centos 5.2 , don't know where to look for the mcrypt extension

by: fosiul01Posted on 2008-06-27 at 10:16:17ID: 21885866

hi u wil have to give me some time as i m out of pc. Use locate commad. It should be in ext folder. Type locate ext. Or type locate mc.... It wil show u if there is any file.

by: rroslanPosted on 2008-06-27 at 10:19:22ID: 21885890

ok, I got my Joomla page back.
The fault is because I have already defined /var/www/html as the default server pointing to http://dev.domain1 and I created a virtual server dev.domain1 pointing to the same folder. I deleted vhost dev.oriental and restart apache and now dev.reti is pointing to Joomla.

For the mcrypt, it seems it has to be compiled with php.

Previously when using windows, all I got to do is to uncomment the mcrypt extension in the php.ini. On centos I don't know. I have looked at php.ini and can't find the mcrypt.so
