Question

Trouble connecting to MySQL via port set to anything else but 3306 Why is this? Can't I change the listening port#??

Hello I believe this problem should be pretty basic:

Whenever I run my mysqld server on port 3306 it runs fine.
When I change to port=4567 or port=3312 etc...

I get an error like:
the following from /var/log/messages:

I also get the following in the default : /var/log/mysqld.log file I get:

120130 13:32:20 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
120130 13:32:20 [Note] Plugin 'ndbcluster' is disabled.

120130 13:32:20 [ERROR] Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Permission denied
120130 13:32:20 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 4567 ?
120130 13:32:20 [ERROR] Aborting


or

It also occurs to me that the /etc/services lists the port number of 3306 but is that the problem? Shouldn't the:
[mysqld]
port=3312
and restarting the server set the port to 3312 and shouldn't it run normally ???
