ya, I know. But I have seen some articles stating people are installing yum on debian to fetch rpm's with dependencies. I have always like compiling my own from source. I am moving away from SuSE and this is the first major hickup so far as the software requires libs only avail in RH/SUSE. I will try and create some symlinks and see if I get anywhere.

If anyone has an ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

Hi zipurman,

On your debian you can install yum with:
apt-get install yum
and then use you to fetch other rpm packages.

OR

use alien to convert your rpm do deb and then install it with:
dpkg -i <your package>

OR

and this is suggested way to doing things -> use only packages which comes from standard debian repository. For example apt-cache search libstdc++ gives you names of that packages which you may be interested in.

AND

I'm not sure what you are trying to install but have you looked into debian to see if it has what you need without fetching and installing alien packages. Try apt-cache search <pattern> first before you use rmp on debian.

hope this helps

Thanks Luxana,

I am attempting to install RSA SECURID on Debian. However, it only supports SuSE 9.0/9.1/9,2 or RH 6/7.

I am getting errors relating to libc.so.6 and libdl.so.2, however using ldd I dont find the answer.

/usr/bin/clear: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

expr: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/mnt/mac/ACEPROG/install2/sdsetup: line 185: [: -lt: unary operator expected
/bin/pwd: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

srv06:~# ldd /bin/pwd
      linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
      libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb7ded000)
      /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f27000)

I even tried this (was reaching)
apt-get upgrade libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2
(this of course upgraded all dependencies and made a bit more of a mess)

Any thoughts?

perhaps if you want to authenticate users with RSA SecurID you can use RADIUS for that..

Its the RSA ACE server that I am building. It is what the Radius server would be authenticating against. Without the ace server, there is no way to use the rsa tokens.

I may have to compile RH7 on a 1U appliance to just serve as a RSA ACE server. I will dig into the docs again tomorrow, and see if I can find anything.

This is the closest to a solution I have found:

When I tried - yum install compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-138.i386 - I got a package not found. What are people using for repositories for yum.conf on debian these days?

by: zipurmanPosted on 2008-08-20 at 20:31:54ID: 22275960

Can anyone think of a way to do this? The libs are there ... the packages are too ... they are just in the Debian locations rather than the SuSE/RH locations. I could make some symbolic links, but I am unsure the best way to track down at which point the libs are breaking. See the above posts for the details.

The end result on this is a plan to install an additional linux server using redhat. Wish I had more time, as I am sure there is a solution out there.
