How to mount a home folder after gnome login on debian/ubuntu?
Hi there,
I'm trying to mount a user's home folder after logging into gnome. Is that possible, and how can it be done. We're trying to implement a solution where each user runs thier own version of debian/ubuntu linux on thier machines, but where certain mount points come from a central server. The idea, however is that a user can login to any machine (something like roaming profiles in windows and thier home directory will be mounted from the server)
Is this a good solution, and how can I do this?

So I probably didn't understand your question exactly. I thought you want have your users' home directories to be mounted via NFS on any machine, they will log into. If you want something else, please elaborate on your question.

Nfs will help you to Shared your /home directory over any client,
but if you want to keep all login information to one server and all client mechine will get login information from that server , then you will have to install LDAP for Centralized authentication [ active directory]
so user will get authenticated via Ldap server then the share would mount automataly as roming profile

I have a client that have 40 users. They are running Windows 2000 SBS with roaming profiles. It's a dog and I've convinced them that they don't need windows. They want me to develop a linux based solution where they will still have roaming profiles within the building, central username and password authentication off the server and the ability to roam offsite securely.
I have setup fusefs and think that thats a good solution when offsite. I think that NFS is a good solution when they are onsite. I'm not sure how to mount the right one though (if the client is either onsite or offsite). Also, I'm not sure what the best way is for getting them to authenticate with the main server (LDAP is an option, but wat about NIS??)
Or perhaps the machines that roam offsite should not have "roaming profiles" but access to user folders on the server through fuse?
What do you suggest?? I need to be pointed in the right direction here.
