Hi all,
I have a rubbish old Packard Bell pc I wish to install Debian on to use as a development server. The model is here

According to the spec I use nVidia Geforce 7050/nForce 630i (MCP73) chipset drivers for the motherboard.
I've tried installing Debian, but cannot find the hard drive. It says
"No disk drive detected"
and that's where I get stuck as I've tried a few but none seem to work. The machine has a 'Denver 10' motherboard according to the spec, one of those awful micro atx sized ones. The machine doesn't have a floppy drive, so it'd be nice if the solution allows me to add drivers from a usb key.

For AHCI you wouldn't have a driver. What other options do you get apart from AHCI and SATA (Possibly if you change it to SATA more options will show up)? It isn't necessary to set it to AHCI mode, as you won't see any advantage over straight IDE mode. The advantages would only become visible if you have multiple drives available.

to get it working, had to use a lcd monitor to see to do it though. All running now, thanks for your help!

Are you using a SATA HD? Have you checked within the BIOS if you can change the Disk controller's settings to use IDE or compatibility mode rather than any special SATA modes?
