How do I stop Fedora from getting an IP on startup?

Asked by molerner in Fedora Linux, Linux, Linux Distributions

Tags: Fedora, Linux, networking, command-line, Fedora 8

I'm using Fedora 8 with most of the default settings on. While it loads, it tries to establish a network on startup (I'm talking about as it loads, before I log in). I'd like to stop it from doing so, as it by far is the thing that takes the longest (usually I'm not connected and I have to wait for it to time out) and I'm not doing anything remote before until after login.

I need a way to either

A. Disable doing that on startup
B. Change the timeout to 5 seconds

I need step-by-step instructions, either in the console or out of it.
