Browse All TopicsI have a WindowXP host with 4Gb of Ram. I have Vmware 6.5 with which I have Linux Mint and Fedora 11.
For some reason Fedora 11 keeps beeping. I can hear the beep through the guest AND host - i can mute the speaker on either the guest and host and still hear the anoying beep.
Fedora appears to be working OK, i am just concerned that the beep might be a warking for something more serious...

It may be the simulated PC-Speaker from VMWare. My Fedore installation does also
beep occasionally.
There is a config setting in VMW which disabled the "beeps":
mks.nobeep = "TRUE"
Append it to
"C:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini"
restart your VMWare Workstation and there will be silence.
This gives the Virtual Machine the ability to notify the user about events.
Some are critical, some are just annoying. - Like the terminal 'bell'.
If your virtual machine performs well, I think there is no need to investigate further.
But if you want to, I would suggest looking in /var/log/messages or dmesg for clues.
