Its possible you may need to install the TWAIN driver for you scanner.
From the Kodak Capture Software manual:
Capture Software requires a successful installation of the scanners TWAIN
data source (i.e., TWAIN driver) in order to run the scanner properly. The
TWAIN data source must be installed separately from Capture Software. The
latest TWAIN data source can be found at www.kodak.com/go/disupport
IMPORTANT: Always reboot the host computer after installing Capture
Software and the Scanner Validation Tool to ensure proper
connectivity with your scanner.
The Kodak website is hard to navigate.
I would use a search engine to find the correct driver. Ex: "[Scanner model] TWAIN driver kodak"

According to the Kodak Capture Software 6.11 release notes:

The error you describe is a known limitation of the software.
* If Capture Software is started when the i200 Series Scanner is waking
up from Energy Saver mode, Capture Software may not start up properly
and display the following error message "..MCENDKDK.DLL: Library
initialisation failed". To recover, simply restart Capture Software
again after the scanner has completely woken up.
