Problems with National Characters - MySQL Query Browser.

Asked by KDK in MySQL, Windows XP Operating System, Mandrake Linux

Tags: mysql, query, browser, characters

The setup is two PC's - with SSH-access to a MySQL database on a Linux server.
I have moved to a new PC. When I edit data in the database on the server, on the new PC with Query Browser,  the special Danish characters are changed. Example: The word 'blåbærgrød' turns into 'blÃ¥bærgrød' when the web-page is displayed in a web-browser (displays OK in Query Browser) and I'm not even changing the special characters, just adding or remove a dot for instance.
On the old PC this never happens. In fact if I go back to the old PC afterwards, and e.g. add or remove a dot, and commit the changes, all the 'changed' letters will be correct again in the web-browser.
Both PCs run the newest XP PRO (Danish), I connect to the server using PuTTY (same version, same settings), and the Linux-server runs MySQL 4.0.20. (mysql  Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.20, for mandrake-linux-gnu (i586)). Web-pages are displayed using php.
Client characterset:    latin1
Server characterset:    latin1
One difference: The old PC runs Query browser 1.1.14 - the new one 1.1.20.
