Windows 7 laptop shows no display
I tried to get Ubuntu 10.10 (latest version) running on my 2 month old laptop earlier today, and had trouble getting it to work. The live CD worked, but when I tried to do a real installation, it just wouldn't work. So, I gave up, remembered why I love Windows so much, and uninstalled it from the control panel, then rebooted.
Now, there is no display! The screen comes on, because it's not black (like when it's off), but there's nothing showing. I've tried rebooting and holding down all kinds of combinations of keys, as per lots of google searches, but nothing. The computer is running right now. The caps lock and num key work as the lights go on and off, so the computer is doing something, but I can't see anything.
I've also tried the FN and various number keys to make sure I didn't disable the display.
So right now I have a laptop I can't use. I can only assume Ubuntu screwed up the boot stuff. How can I possibly fix this? I've tried rebooting with a Windows 7 DVD in there but I still can't see anything.
Oh and I connected the laptop to an external monitor, with the same result.
The model is a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150.
Thanks.

Well, I held down F12 and turned the laptop on, and now I see something! It says "grub rescue> ". It doesn't seem to like anything I type in though.
