Install VMWare tools for current Ubuntu LTS

We are in a hosted cloud and as usual our host supports Microsoft Windows and Redhat.   The reason for this post is we use Ubuntu.

I have tried the tools that our hosting provider offers ( For Redhat )  and they will not install VMWare tools on our Current Ubuntu servers.

From the command line in the current Ubuntu LTS Server  I need to:
1) Find and download the VMWare tools for Ubuntu
2) Install the tools for Ubuntu VMWare

How can I get VMWare tools for Ubuntu installed in a hosted cloud that does not support Ubuntu ?

thx

To install the proprietary VMware tools you'll need access to them, which, in your circumstances seems difficult.

Another option is the open-vm-tools, did you take a look at these already? Under Ubuntu you normally can install them via apt:

apt-get install open-vm-tools

Or, check here for other options

Disclaimer: I'm not saying go ahead and install them if your hostingprovider doesn't support it, just giving you the choice if you really want to, in other words, it's on your own risk :)

This is the best answered question I have ever had.

I is like DR Phil saying "here is a copy of my book on that subject"
