I have a Windows XP machine that won't boot anymore. The screen goes black, nothing happens, I don't even see the BIOS screen, although sometimes the machine seems to startup partly. So it could well be that this is a hardware problem.
Anyway, I want to download a Linux Live CD, and then scan the harddisk. What is the best available distribution I can use for cleaning the system?
What I need:
* Scan for viruses, rootkits, adware etc
* SSH into the machine to copy user data
* Preferably a GUI
I don't mind using two distributions, one for the scanning, another for the SSH. I've used Knoppix before to login to a machine with SSH and download all user data. So that's not the problem. I'm especially interested in distributions that have an easy method of scanning and cleaning a system.
