Linux: hide icons on desktop
i am running redhat enterprise release 4, on the desktop there are several icons, one is "Computer" one is "root's home", one is "trash"
is there anyway to hide these icons?

Open gconf-editor, go to:
apps > nautils > desktop > computer_icon _visible [uncheck the box]
Do same for, home_icon_visible and trash_icon_visible.
This would remove the three icons for you.
