After I download it, can I install to the virtual machine without burning it to the CD and boot from it?

by: shakoush2001Posted on 2007-12-26 at 08:11:26ID: 20529614

Yes ..just use VMWARE to browse to the ISO needed and then boot the virtual machine ..if you wana take a look at Red Hat or use it ..I suggest not trying the isos provided @mikesg "the are outdated" rather try RHEL Red Hat Enterprise Linux

The download links I provided are working for RH 8.0 Enterprise as well as the older version.  He didn't specify which version he wanted, which is why I provided both.  I have used both on several occasion, as well as my last post with the detailed instructions.  The instructions for installing 4.2 also worked for 8.0.

Also, those are not ISOs. They are the disk images, which is what he requested.

He did not state that he wanted redhat enterprise linux.

Q. Where do I download Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

A. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is not available for download. It is a commercial and supported Linux distribution.

Red Hat Network (RHN) (free registration required) has the trial version or demo version and you can download ISO images for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. After evaluation period you need to purchase support.

Also, forgive me for asking, but whats the reasoning behind not burning them to a CD?

by: mikesgPosted on 2007-12-26 at 17:39:28ID: 20531944

1. What are you installing this on?
2. What is on the drive you are installing it to?
3. Have you ever done a linux install before?

Regardless of those questions, there are plenty of "how-to" tutorials online to assist you for what you are trying to do and different methods of doing such.  I believe your initial question has been answered sufficiently.

I downloaded and burned to disks the 3 images.
now I started the virtual machine with disk1 in the tray, but it says:
No bootable CD, Floppy or hard disk was detected.
to install an operating system, insert  a bootable CD or floppy and restart the virtual machine by clicking the reset button

I am sorry I did loose track of this question..you should have downloaded the ISOs and then using vmware you should have setup the cd rom to image file and browse to the first iso and choose it.
