Repercussions of setting umask to 027 in /etc/init.d/functions

I am trying lock down my RHEL4 and 5 servers and its been recommended that I change the umask in /etc/init.d/functions to 027. Would anyone be able to shed any light on what I should look out for/what problems I might run into after I make this change

Tintin is one of the top experts in E.E so he stated the following.

I really don't know if you're going to run into issues changing the umask from 022 to 027 (perhaps not).

/etc/init.d/functions is referenced by any rc script that has the following line:

. /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions

So Almost every file in /etc/init.d uses this file.

Can you give me a concrete example of what would change?

Ex x file will no longer have world read and execute privs

This is how permission concept work the umask is subtracted from global permission declaration 777.

777 - 022=755 = rwx(U) rx(G) rx(O)
777- 027=750 = rwx(U) rx(G) NoPermissions(O)

U-Users
G-Groups
O-Others.

I am try to figure out specifically what are some of the files that will no longer have read and execute for "others"

to find that u have use following command. This command will show u list of all files that are using /etc/init.d/functions.

#grep "/etc/init.d/functions" /etc/init.d/*

Cool I think we are getting closer

That will tell me that files that are using /etc/init.d/fucntions

I'm trying to determine which files are created using that umask

For Example, I made this change on my Fedora 11 box and now I can't log in through ssh or the gui

I think but I am not sure! this change mainly effects all the script under /etc/rc.d directory
It takes time to dig more into functions script to confirm it, but un-fortunately I cannot dig :-( lack of time. But I am 95% sure it effects the process of starting services which are under /etc/rc.d
