Question

Download apache 2.2.11 .rpm or srpm?

Asked by: tietohacker

I try to find an .rpm file for apache webserver 2.2.11 . The only thing I found that seems to be useful is this link: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/RHWAS/SRPMS/

But what is RHWAS?
Can I use this file to build my own .rpm with rpmbuild?
My OS is: RHEL5 Server

Or does anyone know where to find a "readytoinstall" .rpm?

if you are using rhel5 apache is the httpd package..
see if you have it installed or get it from the installation cd itself

Yes I have 2.2.3-22 installed!
The latest release that you can download for redhat seems to be httpd-2.2.3-22.el5.
I need 2.2.11 as .rpm or srpm.

by: fosiul01Posted on 2009-09-09 at 03:30:14ID: 25289721

yum or up2date will not give you latest version
so you will have to install apache from source

currentnly

Apache HTTP Server 2.2.13 is the best available version

if you want to get that you will have to compile it from source.

about that .src.rpm software, you need to compile those then have to install i never tryed, but i can give some tutorial.
but i would of say, ifyou upto up to date version then install from source

http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/fedora/updates/10/i386/httpd-2.2.11-2.fc10.i386.html

and a couple of other sites would give u that but most likely you're gonna face a dependency hell

Ok, but what does RHWAS stand for? I found httpd-2.2.3-11.el5.src.rpm on the link below.
ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/RHWAS/SRPMS/

Can I build a "real" .rpm package with rpmbuild from this source package?

(my problem is that I have 2.2.3 allready installed with a lot of dependencies and for that reason I want to build my .rpm and make an upgrade on the allready installed package)

Ok, thanks. I will try and come back with the result.

by: tietohackerPosted on 2009-09-17 at 06:22:05ID: 25355745

Unfortunately I got so many dependency errors I gave up. I started to download and install all of the depencencies but when I came to gcc and libgomp they where dependent of eachothers version and refused to upgrade. I even tried with the force option.
I finally compiled the version instead and installed on my machine.

Thanks all for your answers!
