What is the best alternative for ASP.NET on the Linux platform?
I have been a VS developer for many years and want to know what the best alternative is for the ASP.NET platform.
I am familiar with the LAMP combination, but I don't see that as an alternative... any other solutions I should look into?

After a bit of further research, I see that the Sun server may be limited to ASP pages and may not run ASP.NET pages. Check the Sun web site for additional details.
If you are looking to use an open source language, I would investigate PHP. I find it to be a very intuitive language, something I can't say about ASP.NET.
If you don't mind spending a bit of money, I would investigate ColdFusion. ColdFusion is my preferred platform because it is very intuitive and very powerful. It may cost some money up front, but the time it saves in development, and the things it allows you to do, far out weigh the cost, in my mind.

Thanks for the info so far... a couple of thoughts...
Indeed, the Sun solutions looks nice, but no (or limited ASP.NET support)...
I am using Visual Studio for all my developments (with IIS and .NET) and was wondering the *NIX alternatives to develop, code version, publish just like VS...
I am aware of ColdFusion although not sure if it's a full on *NIX alternative since it's coded in MS C++...
A couple of thoughts...
ColdFusion 8 is coded in JAVA, not MS C++.
From the standard developer's perspective, (except for the fact that Java actually makes a much more robust application), I don't believe it makes a whole lot of difference what the underlying code is... that's the beauty of ColdFusion, you don't have to get into that underlying code.
In comparison to Visual Studio, ColdFusion is very different. ColdFusion doesn't have a visual interface where you drag buttons and what-not onto a page and have a bunch of code developed in the background.
ColdFusion is a tags-based language, rather similar to coding in HTML. The beauty is that a developer doesn't have to reinvent the wheel every time they want to do some function, as Adobe and Macromedia have already created an array of functions for you.
