The DS4700 is a RAID Controller that IBM OEM's from LSI.
The DS4700 is connected to the server via a Storage Area Network or SAN, but simply this is just a way of connecting the RAID controller to the server similar to the way an IP network works.
At the server end an IO card plugged into a PCI (PCI, PCIx, PCIe) slot this is connected to the DS4700 via Fibre-Optic cables probably running at 4GigaBit (but 8Gb is also possible). The HBA looks like a SCSI adapter to OS in this case Linux, and the Disks look like SCSI LUNs to the OS as well
