Firefox slow flash

i have a fresh copy of ubuntu and installed all the updates. installed flash via synaptics update. flash runs super slow.
p4 2.92
2.7 gb ram
intel video card

Intel video cards have some problem with 9.04. You should comply with instructions on this page:

I installed the older video driver and see no imporvment. how can i tell the old video driver is really the on being used?

Have you restarted the PC?

To check for old driver, just type:

dpkg -l xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.4

and see if it shows "ii" as the first 2 characters in the line.

I did restart and still see no improvment. i attach the output of the command. ity looks as if the old driver is being used. when i runglxgears  iget

Have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras?

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

What type of card do you have? You can get the name here:

  lspci -nn | grep VGA

i installed the all the extras and the video card is

It is still really laggy, i would have thought that intel would be a widly supported graphics card

Hi

Is it only flash slow? if it is the only slow piece, then you can go and try installing flash player directly from adobe.

if you cannot activate the advanced graphics like compiz, then you should look at the correct X windows for your card.

i ended up reloading Ubuntu. The same exact version and it has dramaticly improved. I can play flash now. I still feel that is slower than windows on the same machine. I guess linux can't be the best at everything :P
