ubuntu is difficult, check ubuntu itself for wireless drivers, check device manager to see if there is a network card attached, make sure the wireless itself is awitched on, when connecting to the one you need, make sure there is a password enabled, if there is none, get it enbabled. also please download driver genius professional (free trial) and to get it into full program contact me on the email pwitnall@hotmail.co.uk just make the email header RE:experts-exchange and i will reply as soon as possible. or you can contact me via another website live chat on www.derbybslcafebar.co.uk, ask for plovesr

when connecting to the one you need, make sure there is a password enabled, if there is none, get it enbabled.  ::= My wireless network is not enabled so i cant check all this

Problem is : from Right hand top corner there should be a icon to select wirless and eth0, in their , wireless is disabled

From your posted logs I see that your wireless is working. Just click on Network Manager icon in the right upper corner and select the wirelesse network you want to connect to.

by: fosiul01Posted on 2009-10-19 at 08:48:19ID: 25606305

here is the problem :
"Just click on Network Manager icon in the right upper corner and select the wireless network you want to connect to. "

I guess, network manager icon in ( top right upper corner)

if i go to their,

Wireless network : disabled (gray color)
wireless  is disabled ( gray color)

so basically its disabled in their!!

by: fmarzoccaPosted on 2009-10-19 at 08:53:37ID: 25606358

If you right-click on that icon you are not able to enable it?

by: fosiul01Posted on 2009-10-19 at 08:57:36ID: 25606395

Did not know you can right click on their!!!

anyway.. i right click on their

Enable Networking : is checked and enabled
Enable Wirless : its Grayed , and i cant enabled it

if i go to edit information ( after right click), the tab Wireless is empty. nothing in their

That's strange. If you look into: System->Administration->Hardware drivers, do you find any recommended proprietary driver?

omm there is a problem now!!

check the attached picture

it was disabled , so i enabled that one, then reboot the system
Now i dont see any wireless in Network manage icon

, its like , my pc does not have any wireless card installed
and if config does not show any wlan0 anymore!1

but that could be for another reason, i followd this article
http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Linux/Q_24465781.html

and did what the ACCEPTED solution but i didnot reboot the pc at that time.. so when i reboot the pic this time  pc is not detecting wlan any more!!, not sure if those software causing any problem.

you know what , give me 1 hour, i will go home now, and will install ubuntu again in this pc, then i will start with you... but if you see enabeling that driver causes the problem( as the pictured ) , then its different issue

i went through that link

I followed the number 1.
and i added these lines
blacklist ath_hal
blacklist ath_pci

after restart , no luck

, went to step 2

search with these command
grep -r "ath5k" /etc/modprobe.d/

but , there is not any files which has these 2 lines
ommm

what to do ???

by: fmarzoccaPosted on 2009-10-19 at 11:15:16ID: 25607611

The problem is due to the fact that you don't have the ath5k module in your system.

ommm

i will have a look that one now

but When installed the ubuntu Directly to the Pc , then it was fine

but this time, i did not installed ubuntu directly to the pc.

From the ubuntu desktop Cd, i chose the installation inside the windows

does it make any difference??

by: fmarzoccaPosted on 2009-10-19 at 11:24:52ID: 25607699

Are you meaning that you are running ubuntu inside windows with wubi?

by: fosiul01Posted on 2009-10-19 at 11:25:27ID: 25607707

hmmm Yes

by: fmarzoccaPosted on 2009-10-19 at 11:27:01ID: 25607720

Oh, you didn't say that!

That mode is highly experimental and its scope is really to give the user just a "screenshot" of Ubuntu. Many functions doesn't work in that mode. You should run Ubuntu natively.

If you need Windows, just install ubuntu on another partition and make a dual-boot

by: fosiul01Posted on 2009-10-19 at 11:30:14ID: 25607741

hmm yes, i was thinking that, but i did not think that would be a light version of ubuntu..  ( dont have too much knowledge of ubuntu desktop)

Anyway, i should of tell this at first... sorry for this.

also thanks for your time, i will install dual mode... as  i need ubuntu to do some testing..
