Could you please let me know the steps to configure sendmail and then fetch mails from remote? :)

and then create a local IMAP/POP server and acesss my mail via the thunderbird client,
after configuring the fetchmail it looks like it is creating a file 'mbox' in user's
$HOME directory, now how can I create the dovecot IMAP/POP server in my local host which
could let my access my mails on other client via thunderbird email clients? Thanks!

I don't use Sendmail, but from looking around, it seems Sendmail cannot deliver to local mail boxes... you need to instruct Sendmail to use Procmail for that. So it's looking like this at the moment:

AFAIK, fetchmail is not a local delivery agent, and cannot deliver mail on it's own. I think you'll find it's passing delivery off to postfix or sendmail. This is where you should configure whether mail should be delivered in mbox or maildir format.
