The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Fedora Linux : How to detect network printer

Asked by Hazwan in Linux Printing, Linux

Tags: Fedora Linux : Operating System

Hello

Im new to Fedora. Even, I'm new to Linux environment. I had installed Fedora using kernel version 2.6.23.1-42.fc8-i686. I also have a printer which resides on the network. I want to use this printer as my default printer. So, I tried to surf around the system and i found a menu that provides info of all printer available to the system. It is located at System->Administration->Printing. I can see my printer information there, even all of the setup (eg:-ip of the printer server and its configuration, description..etc) So Im curious to know, how does my system can detect these info even though I never add a printer or configure a printer since the first Fedora installation? Does all Fedora detect it automatically even with its IP and configuration everything?

Secondly, since Fedora have the information of my network printer, i tried to use it. I opened an open office file and write something in it. Then i test print. But the printing did not work. Then i check the print status. It is pending. Then i check my printing method under File->Print in open-office. I can see that my network printer is offline. Why is this happening? I tried to ping the printer IP and the results was good. No problem with the network. Ping succeed. For your information, the Printer Configuration Window displayed that my Device URL would be at location ipp://10.1.27.103:631/printers/hp_LaserJet_4250. How can i solve this problem? Thank you for any assists and it is really appreciated.
