Is there anywhere I can download the iso images for SUSE?
Tried searching Google but it seems they're not available (from SUSE anyway).
I haven't managed to use my BT Voyager ADSL modem using Linux yet.
Any links?

Just in cae the page is not clear enough: There are no SuSE ISO images (with the exception of the live-eval CD). You have to install SuSE over the network via SuSE's ftp server (or preferably a mirror) if you don't want to buy one of the boxed versions. I've done a number of network installs with SuSE, and as long as you are not trying it right after they put a new release up, and provided that you have a reasonably fast internet connection, it works pretty well. At the end you are probably downloading less data than if you would download CD images: You only download those packages that you actually want to install.
You can find these image files for example on SuSE's ftp server:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/sus
What is the BT Voyager ADSL modem? How do you connect to it? Do you need any special software for it?
>What is the BT Voyager ADSL modem? How do you connect to it?
It's the modem you get with AOL Broadband in the UK.
>Do you need any special software for it?
Not if you run under Window$ - the drivers provided are Window$ only, but Linux drivers are out there...
I have various bootable linux cds and will try over the weekend.
Thanks,
Freerider
YOu cannot install the Live-Eval version of SuSE. It's a "live eval" CD: An evaluation version of SuSE that runs from a live CD.
If your Slackware installation takes up the whole disk, you have two choices when installing another Linux distribution: You can replace the existing installation with the new one, or you can use a tool like PartEd (http://www.gnu.org/softwa
If the "live eval" cd does not have drivers for your modem you can try knoppix. http://www.linuxiso.org/do
This is a full version of linux on cd and if you need to make changesses you can save them to floppy.

For the benefit of people looking at this question, Suse now offers a personal ISO. Rigth now Suse 9.1 is available named SUSE-9.1-personal-x86.iso and is on the mirrors http://www.suse.com/us/pri

>> I don't think this is a legal copy! SuSE has not released any DVD images of the 9.3 version. <<
What is illegal in distributing a linux distibution for _free_? If you think so, please inform the admin to remove my post.
Some people are not willing to pay for a linux distro, which is okay in my eyes. I buy every second or third one, too. I gave many CD images (Suse, Debian, Mandrake) to other people _for free_ and I yet have to meet somebody to detail me what is illegal in such behavior. About Windows I would be very careful, with linux the spirit of open source software is alive. Distribution by BT is a way saving resources of Novell (aka Suse) servers, too.
Regards,
has.
PS: I assume quite a few folks like to try Linux out at home, and if they like it, they are willing to buy it at the company (admins).
I know this is an old, and closed question, however it needs updated.
SuSE has changed their policy and now posts ISO's again, but only after a version has been released for retail a given amount of time (3-6 months I believe)
For example you can get SuSE 9.3 from Novell/SuSE at:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/sus
Here's the contents of that dir.
Up to higher level directory
Directory: 9.3-x86-64-Network-Install
File: MD5SUMS 1 KB 07/19/2005 10:53:00 AM
File: README_eval.txt 6 KB 06/29/2005 12:02:00 PM
File: SUSE-9.3-Eval-DVD.iso 4383158 KB 07/01/2005 09:27:00 AM
File: SUSE-9.3-Prof-i386-CD1.iso
File: SUSE-9.3-Prof-i386-CD2.iso
File: SUSE-9.3-Prof-i386-CD3.iso
File: SUSE-9.3-Prof-i386-CD4.iso
File: SUSE-9.3-Prof-i386-CD5.iso
You can see that there are all the ISO's for the Pro version of 9.3
As for copying/distributing SuSE, I think the moderator was wrong here.
You should have contacted SuSE first and asked them.
In the past I have had SuSE personell tell me themselves to go ahead and buy one copy of workstation and install it on all our machines.
What you get on the CD/DVD is generally GPL or other such distributable licences (like Acrobat Reader for example). It's not the contents that you are paying SuSE for, it's the access to support.
When you buy SuSE retail, you get a box with the media, you get 3 manuals, setup guide, stickers, etc.
And you also get a license number the entitiles you to phone, web, and e-mail support.
That's what you are paying for. Not Linux.
If you copy the SuSE media, you get no support and no manuals. You are on your own.
It's not Linux they are selling, it's their services.
