Browse All TopicsTwo months ago our server administrator passed away. Our servers are still running fine at the moment but the thing is, none of us knows anything about Linux. The only things we can do is ftp to the server (which we know is not secure) and common tasks such as copy, paste, cut and moving around using a console terminal.
Now what we need to do now is to be able to ssh from a Windows PC to our Linux server. We’ve downloaded ‘Putty’ (I’m sure a lot of you knows or are even using this software) and tried to connect to the server but couldn’t. We did a few more research and found out that (i) ssh is disabled on the server or (ii) no such service exists on the server.
Can anyone please tell me how I can install and or configure ssh?? Also, when I tried to established an ssh connection with putty, it informed me that I should check the server host’s key to see that I’m connecting to the right server. How do I find this out??
Please be as descriptive and thorough with your answers. I still consider myself as a Linux beginner… and no quite there yet to be comfortable with Linux lingo
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Lomi
