Help with ~/.telnetrc

Hello friends,
   A quick help!! I created a .telnetrc in my home directory with the following entries

$ cat ~/.telnetrc

DEFAULT
        environ define MYVAR "surya p"
        environ export MYVAR
-------------------

In here MYVAR is user defined variable. When I telnet to other machine I cant find this variable exported . How do I do this? This should work seamlessly across all unix's.

On my linux machine I am printing the telnet operating parameters?
$ echo display | telnet
telnet> will flush output when sending interrupt characters.
won't send interrupt characters in urgent mode.
won't send login name and/or authentication information.
won't skip reading of ~/.telnetrc file.
won't map carriage return on output.
will recognize certain control characters.
won't turn on socket level debugging.
won't print hexadecimal representation of network traffic.
won't print user readable output for "netdata".
won't show option processing.
won't print hexadecimal representation of terminal traffic.
