I'm flummoxed.
I've never been able to get a successful install of Linux, no matter what flavour: SuSE, Fedora, Mandrake, or Debian.
The ISO's have been downloaded, checked w/ md5sum. All the sums seem to suggest that we've got the correct file.
I've burned slowly (all sorts of speeds) w/ Nero Start Smart.
There are all sorts of problems w/ each install. The most promising seems to be Fedora, which checks the disks before the install: all of these checks FAIL. Continuing despite the test failure indeed leaves the install with packages that are unable to be "read."
SuSE can't find the necessary info for a "proposal", Mandrake hangs about 65% of the way, and I forget what Debian does.
I had techies fight with an install of Mandrake several years ago, and they spent two weeks at it, but never got print or file sharing successfully installed. I had Win2K up and running in an afternoon rather than continue with that agony.
But I'd really LIKE to get started w/ Linux. It just seems that the gods have conspired against me so that all I can make is Linux coasters.
Is there a way to do this without aggravation? What am I missing?
