The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

pam_mysql > samba configuration (amongst others vsftp, ...)

Asked by DangerM0use in Linux, Fedora Linux

Tags: pam_mysql, samba, user

I am currently running:

fedora core 5
samba - 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1
mysql - 5.0.21
pam_mysql - 0.6.2-3fc5

I am attempting to store all samba user information within a (you guessed it) mysql db, however not all seems to be going as planned. The mysql
server resides on an MS 2003 server (dev system), I've created a schema and loosely followed the following URL (I realise it's a different distro).

http://www.freebsddiary.org/samba-pam.php

Though admittedly a couple of things did not perform as suggested (schema sql), that being said, everything else has gone as planned... except that
is, the actual authentication.

Non of my dev client PC's can authenticate; at this point I'll list the contents of: /etc/pam.d/samba
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

auth   required   pam_mysql.so   host=Atlas   user=root   passwd=pass   db=samba_auth   table=users   usercolumn=login   crypt=2
account   required   pam_mysql.so   host=Atlas   user=root   passwd=pass   db=samba_auth   table=users   usercolumn=login   crypt=2
password   required   pam_mysql.so   host=Atlas   user=root   passwd=pass   db=samba_auth   table=users   usercolumn=login   crypt=2
session   required   pam_mysql.so   host=Atlas   user=root   passwd=pass   db=samba_auth   table=users   usercolumn=login   crypt=2

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've modified crypt to 2 because the encrypt function did not work in mysql, so I fell back onto the password facility, appart from that everything is pretty
much as suggested in the above article, including the samba.conf file.

any ideas? better documentation would be a plus also.
