The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Wireless Network Card

Asked by xDamox in Linux, Fedora Linux

Tags: , ,

Hey all,

well I installed fedora core 6 and my internal network and orinoco card don't work

my Internet Wireless card gets picked up as lspci shows:

06:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 [AirForce 54g] 802.11a/b/g PCI Express Transceiver (rev 02)

However when trying to active it via neat I get the following error messages:

Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: SoftMAC: empty ratesinfo?
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: SoftMAC: empty ratesinfo?
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: bcm43xx: set security called, .active_key = 0, .level = 1, .enabled = 1, .encrypt = 1
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: SoftMAC: Associate: Scanning for networks first.
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: SoftMAC: Associate: failed to initiate scan. Is device up?
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: bcm43xx: PHY connected
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost firmware_helper[2984]: Loading of /lib/firmware/bcm43xx_microcode5.fw for bcm43xx driver failed: No such file or directory
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: bcm43xx: Error: Microcode "bcm43xx_microcode5.fw" not available or load failed.
Oct 24 21:55:06 localhost kernel: bcm43xx: core_up for active 802.11 core failed (-2)

I can also see my orinoco card in lspci:

07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5211 802.11ab NIC (rev 01)

However this is not picked up with the neat or if I issue the iwconfig command I only see the
internal wireless card.

Any ideas? I have'nt mess with Wireless in Linux yet.Start Free Trial
