The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Unable to add vmotion networking to ESX Server

Asked by cannelsey in Linux, Storage Technology

Current Setup:
4 Phyical Nics - 3 assigned to Vswitch
 1 - Service Console
 1 - Virtual Machine Network
1 - ISCI trying to assign vmotion to a new Vswitch which is assigned to the other spare Nic

When I try to setup vmotion i get the following error Error during the configuration of the host: SysinfoException: NodeID(17); Status(195887109)=Already exists; Message= Unable to set

This will also happen if I have vmotion setup then try to create a new Vswitch and assign the portgroup for ISCI. We have 3 esx servers and its happening w/ all of them. It is only happening when I have the ISCI setup. I am aware that ISCSI and Vmotion are both considered vmkernel portgroups and you can only have 1 vmkernel portgroup per virtual switch. It looks as though it thinks its creating it on the same Vswitch where ISCI is setup?

 ESXcfg-vswitch -l

Tried to: Created a new Vswitch saved it then tried to assign the port group to it and still getting the same error message. I am able to assign just a VM portgroup to it though. ex VM Portgoup. example Switch Name Num Ports Used Ports Configured Ports Uplinks vswitch3 64 2 64 vmnic2 PortGroup Name Internal ID VLAN ID Used Ports Uplinks test portgroup23 0 0 vmnic2
