I've been workin on this for awhile now and can't figure out whats going on and was hoping someone could help. Im new to Linux so forgive me if i sound dumb. Im using Fedora Core 6 and i want to join it to the domain (Windows 2003 Active directory). The most recent updates have been applied to the platforms. Ive tried a number of methods which include using the GUI and command line:
http://www.planetmy.com/blog/?p=248I tried this method and i get to the part where i make a ticket with the kinit command and it makes the ticket fine and i can tell its using the domain controller because if i type wrong password it fails to make ticket (Im still not clear what this ticket is for ). Then i do "net ads join -U administrator" command and it fails saying operation error (the logs are no help). The computer is not added to AD and nothing changes.
If i do it the GUI way under administor -> authentication i enable winbind and enter my configuration for domain and hit join domain it goes threw with no error. The computer shows up in AD but the profile is blank, windows doesn't no what the computer OS is. So thats fine i can see it but can't connect to it threw windows. So i made a share with the samba server and it still doesn't show up. I know windows can't regonize ext2 filesystem so i installed a program to recgonize it off windows.
What i want to accomplish here is to use windows domain controller to authicate linux and just forget about local account on linux box. I also want to be able to access linux from a windows box. Basically i want linux to appear like just a normal workstation on the network.
I know i missed info, im not sure what u guys would need, config files? Anyways any help on this would be great thanks.
*note* Might be an issue with DNS on the machine cuss i can't ping Domain Controller from linux but by IP i can (not sure how to set this). Also the linux box can be pinged from any windows box on the network by name and ip.
