The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot recognize eth0,CDROM,soundcard

Hi All - I am a total first timer to Linux/Fedora.
I have installed FC5 kernel 2.6.15 on my machine, which has 2 hdds, one of which is now running Vista. Originally, I had wiped Vista all together, but needed it back to get in touch with the world again, as Fedora would not run eth0, CDROM, or sound. It still won't - though Vista runs them all no probs. I am sure, being as new to linux as I am, I am missing some really simple stuff. (Not sure if my modules are loading right or not, don't think the appropriate drivers are present, etc.) I need some very basic guidance to get going in the right direction. My machine is a HP, with Intel Q6600 quad processors, Intel (R)82566 adapter, nVidia Gforce video.
Ultimately, I need to confiure this station to recieve Oracle, which much prefers linux to windows, or so it seems. I will also need to set up a domain host in linux as soon as I can get there. My other challenge is that I am on DHCP. In vista I installed a loopback adapter to simulate static IP and that worked fine, not sure if it will go in linux - need to get operational first.
For now I need to get internet working so I can use the RPM and yum capabilites in Linux. Then I need FC5 to recognize my CDROM. My error on all of the above is "the device does not appear to be present". The CDROM shows, and mounts with disk mounter, but shows fulll CD's as being empty.

At present, I can't seem to even load them to my windows drive, and then suck them into FC5.

Where do I start?
