The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Setup SNMP on Debian to be monitored by Cacti

Tags: snmp, debian, cacti, setup
Hi All

I am trying to setup my Debian server to send SNMP info to my Cacti server..but I dont think I am getting it right I have opened the ports and added the following lines to

/etc/snmp/snmd.conf

com2sec readonly default public
com2sec local          localhost       public
com2sec readonly      myCactiServer         public
com2sec another_name   myserver   public
####
# Second, map the security names into group names:
#               sec.model  sec.name
group MyRWGroup v1         local
group MyRWGroup v2c        local
group MyRWGroup usm        local
group MyROGroup v1         readonly
group MyROGroup v2c        readonly
group MyROGroup usm        readonly
group MyROGroup v1         another_name
group MyROGroup v2c        another_name
group MyROGroup usm        another_name
###

After that I did restart the service ..

To test it I did :

debian:~# scli localhost
100-scli version 0.2.12 (c) 2001-2002 Juergen Schoenwaelder
100-scli trying SNMPv2c ... timeout
100-scli trying SNMPv1  ... timeout.
500 SNMP communication error (timeout)
scli > exit
debian:~# scli my-debian-server-IP
100-scli version 0.2.12 (c) 2001-2002 Juergen Schoenwaelder
100-scli trying SNMPv2c ... timeout
100-scli trying SNMPv1  ... timeout.

I also tried

debian:~# snmpwalk -v 2c -c public localhost system
Timeout: No Response from localhost
