How to mount filesystem off the disk image

Asked by gheist in Linux, Computer Hard Drives

I have ripped a disk image off broken laptop disk (dd conv=noerror, notrunc) and want to mount fat filesystem inside it. It has two about 2G partitions - one ntfs another FAT.
I know how to do that on *BSD, but i need to know if there is something better than unsuidtable to my case mount -o loop command.
That disk is badly broke - it heats up and gives SMART attributes related to head positioning, so I'd better stay with whatever heroically ripped off it.
I'd be happy to copy files over because of load of viruses and spies I found there before finding out disk is bad.
