How to set timezone and date time?

Asked by ostraaten in Linux, Debian Linux, VMware

Tags: Debian, Debian GNU Linux, debian-4.0r1, VMWare image

'date' gives me the following output 'Sat Apr 12 01:47:27 EDT 2008'.

I am not used to EDT, how can I output in my own timezone? How do I set the timezone and datetime?

I am using a VMWare image with VMWare with player which I power up and down all the time. Does Debian set datetime automatically using datetime from the host? What is the best way to (automatically) set date time to the correct date time?Start Free Trial
