Steps to reset Root password for Fedora

Asked by 3l3mn8r in Linux, Fedora Linux, Samba File Server

Tags: Linux, Fedora, core 2.x, single user mode?

I have come upon a client using Fedora and previous employee did not document any passwords.  I would like to reset the root password and have found several hits on Single user mode, rescue cd and a couple other options, none of which really go into detail and consider the reader has some level of Linux experience.  I have no Linux experience and just wish to reset the root password so I can add workstations to the domain using the installed Samba server.  If someone could just list the easiest way for me to reset the password, preferably without having to restart the server, would be very appreciated.  I attempt to add the workstation to the domain and it asks me for username and password, none that I have tried have worked.  I assume I could use root as username and root password to add the workstation.  Any info is greatly appreciated.  Thanks to all of you in advance.  I do assign the points and mark as completed for all the replies I get.Start Free Trial
