I need a compressed directory

Asked by oleber in Linux, Debian Linux, Ubuntu

I have a directory/sub-directory with millions of text/html files and I would like to maintain them logically uncompressed. So I need something that compresses my files without this being clear to the remaining programs/users.

I'm using Debian / Linux and I just can use packages with the apt-get. I can't get files and compile them.
