Having problems with this when trying to start Firefox through an SSH session. With X11 forwarding turned on in Putty, I get the following:
Error: cannot open display: localhost:10.0
When I don't have x11 forwarding turned on and when I try this:
firefox --display=:10.0
I get the same error. I've also tried :0.0 and few others, but how exactly do I know or find out what my display is without having to guess. Where is the display variable set?
When I do the following, I get a blank output:
root@delta:# echo $DISPLAY
root@delta:#
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04.
