Migrating existing mail accounts to Postfix

Hello,

I am in the process of migrating my clients from a flavor of Linux (not sure what it is) on Network Solutions servers to a Postfix server.  I need to migrate mail, contacts and calendars.  Any ideas?

Thanks for your help,

Don

Hello,

On the existing server (Network Solutions) I do not have SSH access, just standard EU web access. Outlook, etc.

Have a great day,

Don
are you using Cpanel  ?
create account by exporting the details from CSV and import via webmin over linux postfix box ... then to sync the data .. the simplest way i suggest is sync the accounts with IMAPSYNC

No, I do not know what they are using.  It just says Network Solutions WebMail.
OK... IMAPSYNC is best option in this case but i am afraid you might need to create mail accounts manually incase you are unable to find anything from them.

Sandeep,

I do not see anywhere to export to CSV.  Beyond that, you are talking over my head.

The existing accounts are POP, not IMAP.

I think you are saying use Outlook/PST to retrieve data from current account, then connect to the new Postfix server and continue using the same PST file.  This will not work.  I need to get the mail moved to Postfix in some way because the EU is using webmail interface and not Outlook or any other 3rd party app.

Actually, NSI does have IMAP access.  Will this copy all mail in all folders, contacts and calendar?
They are giving on request... not sure about GAL but yes calendar entries will sync.

What is given on request?  What is GAL?
IMAP Access is given on request.. GAL is Global address list.. :D

I know for fact IMAP is setup.  I just tested it.  I did not get a clear answer about all of the mail.  Will all of the folders be copied/migrated over?
Sync will make a copy of your folders.. i mean all folders.

Do you know where the best instructions are so I don't mess this up?  In this brief time, the best I found so far is:

http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-migrate-mailboxes-between-imap-servers-with-imapsync
it is perfect... go for it.

I am trying to install via aptitude install imapsync, but getting an error that the package could not be found and suggests imapcopy.
Hold on... Which linux distro you are working on... download pkg from epel in case Centos/Redhat

Depending on how many users there are, a painless solution would be to set up the postfix server from scratch and create the mailboxes for the users.

You will the connect them to the webmail using IMAP / POP to sync or download the current e-mail.

I have not been able to import contacts and calendars to a postfix server, however you can try and export those from the webmail if there is an option.

I am using Ubuntu Server v13.04.

At this point, I am just migrating 3 accounts so starting from scratch would not be practical.

Please read above.  You had asked me what distro I am using.
#apt-get install imapsync

You are starting all over again.  Please read all of the comments.  As mentioned before imapsync is not available for Ubuntu.
hold on... it is available...  and yes.. I am not starting it again...

@Sandy
I think GEMCC means that it's not in a repository that can easily be added/installed with apt-get or aptitude.

@GEMCC
If it's available for linux, it's available for any linux, even ubuntu.  You may just have to download the source yourself, manually compile it, and install it.  It just won't be automatically updated when you use your distro's standard installation and update channel.  You will have to keep track of the patches and updates and manually download the next version and compile it again.

I've requested that this question be closed as follows:

Accepted answer: 0 points for GEMCC's comment #a39892962

for the following reason:

This is what I did.
The same i had suggested in comment ID: 39838037

TY/SA
It would be better to give experts some points rather than deleting the question, what you did was suggested.

By who?  I looked and I could not find one that said this.  I do not care about points at all.  They do not mean anything to me.  What I care about is what is the correct answer so when someone else does a search, they know exactly what was done.

Tell me who gave me the exact same answer and I will give them the credit deserved.

Thank you

Actually ID: 39838037 is not entirely accurate as to what I did.  It does not mention connecting to the new server using IMAP and then copying the messages over.

Again, I do not care about the points, what I care about is the accuracy of the answer and having an accurate knowledge base.

OK, so how do I cancel the close request?

Do whatever you need to do.

This site is not accurate of what the issues are because of "points".  People are to worried about "points".  I do not care about "points".  I care about accuracy of answers to problems.  I waste way too much time trying to figure out what the REAL answer to a problem is all because this site and members are concerned about points.

Seriously considering cancelling my account.

That was half the resolution, that is what you are missing.

Please do what you need to do.  I am not going to respond to this anymore.
