Running  Redhat Enterprise Linux 4ES, and in the MESSAGE log file, we are gtting the following messages :-  
kernel: ide-cd: cmd 0x28 timed out
May  8 23:31:37 inta-iag-mail-01 kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
May  8 23:31:37 inta-iag-mail-01 kernel: hda: irq timeout: error=0xd0LastFailedSense 0x0d

Is this a physical error or can it be ignored ?

This is probably HW problem. Check cabling. Power cycle.
If it still happens, scan for badblocks.
Verify SMART data for that drive if possible.

/dev/hda is not a disk, it's a CD-ROM drive.

You must add this on the grub/lilo boot, when you select "custom parameters", or "edit parameters"

The issue was as said before a CD drive being the problem. Once the CD was taken out error in MESSAGES stopped.
